Smash burgers topped with melted cheese, grilled onions, and special sauce in between two slices of thick Texas toast!
This recipe can be customized to different tastes and preferences. Can be made vegan by substituting the cheese and traditional Mayonnaise for vegan options.

Ingredients
4 slices of Texas toast
4-5 tbsp of Crystal Margarine
1 medium onion, sliced thin
1 package of Impossible Meat (340g package)
4 slices of American cheese (substitute vegan cheese if desired)
Special Sauce
1 ½ cups mayonnaise (substitute vegan mayonnaise if desired)
¼ cup ketchup
¼ cup mustard
¼ cup dill pickles, finely chopped
4 dashes of Worcestershire sauce
1-2 dashes of hot sauce (optional)
1 tsp sugar
Directions
- For your “Special Sauce”, combine all the ingredients into a mixing bowl. Season to taste with salt and pepper and adjust the ingredients to personal preference.
- In a sauté pan, melt 2 tbsps of Crystal Margarine, and add your sliced onions.
- Cook down until brown, season to taste with salt and pepper.
Prepare your smash burgers
- Form your Impossible meat into 4 equal size balls.
- Preheat your frying pan on medium-high heat and place down 1-2 tbsps of Crystal Margarine
- Place down your Impossible meatballs, 2 at a time on the pan, leaving some space between them. Season with salt and pepper.
- Place a small piece of parchment paper on top of the patter and smash down with a spatula until your patty is about ¼ inch thick – take a wooden spoon and apply more pressure on the spatula.
- Once nicely browned, flip your patties and place a slice of cheese on each smash patty.
- Add a tbsp of water to the pan and quickly place on a lid to let the cheese melt.
Assemble your patty melt
- Toast your Texas toast on both sides in a skillet with Crystal Margarine.
- Spread a generous amount of your special sauce on both pieces of toast.
- Place your smash burgers onto the bottom piece of toast, then top with your grilled onions.
